Dr. Joseph Ponnoly, DBA

Dr. Joseph Ponnoly is the founder Director and Principal of Cinfodens LLC (earlier Cinfodens Consulting). He  is a management consultant and researcher in cyber security, Information Technology, and data analytics, and is a corporate trainer.

CYBERSECURITY CONSULTING

Since 2000 he has been a cyber risk consultant to several multi-national corporations in the US in financial services and banking, healthcare, oil and gas, manufacturing, and technology. 

As an IT professional he started developing software to support crime investigations. Prior to 2000, he worked with Central Bureau of Investigation-India as a white-collar crime investigator, and helped to pioneer computer-aided investigations, computer crime investigations, and computer forensics in India. He was also associated with the Interpol in developing strategies to combat computer crimes globally. 

RESEARCH

He is an interdisciplinary researcher and practitioner specializing in systemic risk, adversarial decision-making under deep uncertainty (DMDU), and the governance of complex socio-technical systems. He focuses on cybersecurity and emerging technologies. His work integrates systems theory, robust decision-making, sensemaking, and early-warning approaches to address cascading decision and system failures in cyber-physical and organizational environments. His doctoral dissertation was on 'sensing and sensemaking of early warning signs of cyber disasters in the information technology sector'.

His research and presentations cover industrial control systems (ICS/OT) security, robotic and autonomous system security, and the use of Digital Twins and Agentic AI for secure system design and resilience.  He is the author of Gateway to the Quantum Age (2018) and brings prior experience in white-collar crime and financial fraud investigations to his research on institutional decision failure and systemic risk.

CORPORATE TRAINING

He is affiliated with the ASRA / UN Foundation and the Decision Making under Deep Uncertainty (DMDU) Society, and actively engages with IEEE, ISACA, and the Academy of Management (AOM). He serves as Director of Certifications and Training at ISACA Greater Houston Chapter, leading professional education in cybersecurity governance and risk management. He has been a corporate trainer and accredited trainer for ISACA's professional certifications.

EDUCATION & PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

He earned Doctorate in Business Administration with concentration in data analytics from Grand Canyon University. He also earned MSc Physics Electronics, MS Computer Information Systems, and MBA Finance and Investments. He is also a graduate of SVP National Police Academy, Hyderabad (India) in criminal law, crime investigation and forensics, and allied subjects. He was an adjunct faculty of CBI Academy, Ghaziabad, India, Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad, India, and Bankers Staff College, NOIDA, India. He also holds professional certifications CISA (Information Systems Audit), CISM (Information Security Management), CGEIT (Information & Technology Governance), CISSP (Information Security), AAISM (AI Security Management).
